The Packers had there Super Bowl celebration yesterday. I thought that was a great excuse to show my favorite celebration moment, Mark "Mad dog" Madsen. (fast forward to about 40sec) and for those who speak Spanish "bibliateca grande queso mucho pantaloons"!!

T is for Too many Tattoos

Tonight, the SEC's leader in tattoos (Deandre Liggins coming in a close second), carjacked their way up to Lexington Tuesday night to face our Cats in Rupp arena. While UK will not have a 'must win' game until the middle of March, tonight's game had a 'must win' feel as the Cats needed to bounce back from two straight road loses to keep pace with the 'jorts' wearing Florida Gators and to save Coach Cal from his first 3 game losing streak since probably his days with Keith Van Horn in Jersey. Did those teams even win three games in a row at some point in his tenure? I guess that's my job to answer, but let's be real. Who cares...? It was a big night, as it always is when step-brother comes to town, as Rupp welcomed back John Wall and Bruce Pearl to their first SEC game since last March. I don't know the full story, but apparently Bruce Pearl was suspended the first 8 games of SEC play for texting pictures of his genitalia to recruits and then lying about it. There isn't much at all to complain about after this game as the Cats pretty much dominated, even through their usual 5-10 minute dry spells which must be figured out if this team wants to make any kind of run in March. That, and Terrence Jones not being able to find the basket at point blank range like he made look so easy in the first half of the season, were really the only things that concerned me. Players will miss more shots than they make, but he has seemed to really struggle around the rim since the start of SEC play. Maybe teams have finally caught on to that 'pick n role' offense that he and Brandon Knight seem to like so much. However, this win is still encouraging, but things are never as great as they seem, nor are they as bad. Huge nights for both Harrleson and Liggins carried this team which needs to be seen on a regular basis. The Cats are small and far from deep so it is vital that these two play like they did more often. Eloy, while showing signs of improvement by just not tripping over the paint on the court, won't be able to give this team enough to help make a run that we as fans are hoping for. But seriously, he does seem to be getting it. Coach Cal's team defeated Tennessee 73-61 even after the Vols put together a few runs to cut the lead to single digits throughout the game, but it still wouldn't be enough. However, it would have been enough to squeak by Jodie Meeks' 54pts on this night. Granted, Tennessee was playing without a perfectly healthy Scotty Hopson who finished with 11pts, 3 boards, 2 assists, and 2 TOs, but we'll say it wouldn't have been enough, even though he showed moments of possibly taking over the game. Maybe he was just nervous playing in front of his favorite dancer, the 'Y', John Wall. Hopefully, Fresh Prince's ankle is feeling healthy enough to 'John Wall dance' his ass back to Knoxville. Enjoy this win for now as the Cats face their road demons again on Saturday against Vanderbilt in their three ring gymnasium and we will see if this team can finally get a much needed road win against a quality (ranked) opponent. That's all I got for now, GO CATS!Smoke em' if ya got em'
Aaaaahhhh....one of the perks of late night tv. I just hope to see someone using one of these out in public.

TAKE OFF
Allow myself to introduce.......myself. To the seven people reading this blog, please excuse my tardiness to the party as I have been on strike until I had my photo posted and my initial 'B' listed in the title. One of two isn't all bad. Lets get started. Again, while I realize Bottle Service's viewers are few in number, I will be writing as though our site gets more hits a day than Pornhub. Due to an obnoxious 1,200 character restriction, my informative 'About me' section had to be cut short. For as self-involved as I am, one would think that I love talking about myself. One would be wrong, but I kind of started getting the hang of it. Here's your extended version, director's cut, uncut, unrated and overhyped 'About me'. First, contrary to seeing my 'chinstrap' in my profile picture, I am not from Louisville. That is what we call a playoff beard that I allow to flourish just a couple weeks a year leading up to an annual beer pong tourney that Mr. Kyle Brown and I host. I live in Florence Ya'll, KY. I am a 25 year old grad from UK with a BS in Kinesiology. I head coach high school xc and track, while also personal training and substitute teaching. Obviously I make no money and so I plan to attend Xavier for their graduate Sports Admin program as long as my younger, rebellious self doesn't hold me back. I may take the media route through the program so I hope to use this blog to help me improve thinking objectively and analytically, while still showcasing my charming sense of humor. Maybe writing down my thoughts will help with the occassional anger outburst, but not likely. I’ll be posting mainly on the Whodey, Cayuts, and Redlegs. Calling them by their actual mascot names just isn't as entertaining to me and it's all about looking out for #1. I will also hit on stories and issues surrounding today's sports landscape, if it's something I care about; no Boocat or Trojan stories here. Why talk about teams that won't be in the postseason anyways? You can also expect photos of young girls making their parents proud once my girlfriend checks out this 'distraction from real work' a time or two for support, before deciding she has no interest in Bengals personnel moves. That's all I have for now. More to come later. Enjoy.Thursday, February 3, 2011

Jay Gruden is your new Offensive Coordinator of the Cincinnati Bengals. Honestly I have no idea if this is a good hire. I was more concerned with getting Bob Bratkowski out of town than who would replace him. Bratkowski was fired after 10 years of service.I think Bengal fans were getting ready to riot if a change was not made. I can only imagine the scene would of been similar to what is happening in Egypt. Jay has coached teams we know nothing about like the Orlando Predators and Virgina Destroyers. But he was there head coach and won 2 Arena Football League titles. Jay was also on Tampa Bay's staff when they won the Super Bowl.It seems he has paid his dues and is in line for a big coaching opportunity. I always would rather give a younger guy a shot than hire a retread. The most known fact about Jay is he has a brother named John. John is currently working one night a week. I am neither discouraged or encourage by this hire. Ultimately I wanted more change from the Bengals than just a new OC. I do however think Bratkowski was the biggest problem. So if you are just going to change one thing I'm glad it was this. The Bengals offense has been the most predictable in the league since 2005. Now I didn't say the worst. The Bengals were still putting up above average numbers for most of that time period. But in key situations I knew sitting on my couch what play was being called. So I'm pretty sure the defense did too. All that's left to say is, "Jay, lets see what ya got".
2011 University of Kentucky Football Signees

I needed a pick me up from Tuesday nights lose to Ole Miss and Joker Phillips delivered. The Cats are ranked by ESPN with the 26th best recruiting class in the nation! I'm not one to break high school football down but that has to be good. We shall ignore the fact that having the 26th best class in the nation is only good for 10th best in the SEC. Who would you go with?

This just in to the Bottle Service sports desk "The Super Bowl is Sunday"! OK so you already knew that.GOOD FOR YOU(in Christian Bale voice). As I start to get pumped up like Hans and Fraz for the biggest sporting event of the year, I start to think of many different things. What would it be like to be a Super Bowl champion? Do I have to suffer through another off season with the hated Steelers as champions? How many wings can I eat during the Super Bowl? Will the owners and players agree on a new CBA in time for next year? Do I dip my wings in ranch or blue cheese? Will I be stuck watching the Super Bowl with my dad, the Steelers fan? But most of all is, Which of my teams would I pick to win the championship next year? Well, for me I basically have 4 teams to choice from. Those teams are Cincinnati Reds, Cincinnati Bengals, U of Kentucky basketball, U of Kentucky football. I start by saying even though I love all my teams equally. But like the lone black guy in every horror movie, I immediately eliminate the Reds and UK basketball. Even though both my parents and I worked for the Reds and My dad has a NL Championship ring from when he was a Bat Boy I have seen a Reds World Series before (1990). Now my most beloved team is UK basketball. I cant explain the love affair between that team and the students and rest of the state. its kinda like how Ron Burgundy loves Baxter. If you went to UK like I did you know what I'm talking about. I also have seen them win before (1996 & 1998). So it comes down to my two football teams. even though I would openly say that I am a bigger Bengals fan than UK football, I would have to choose University of Kentucky Football to win next years BCS Championship. My reason being that this is the most unlikely of the 4 to actually win during my life. Believe it or not the Bengals have made it to 2 Super Bowls. The only thing holding the Bengals back is ownership. Mike Brown is 50 years older than I (give or take a year) and will surly die before me. So new ownership will come in my life time. There is no better sporting event than a SEC football game, Super Bowl included. To be able to live through an undefeated season and see the CATS play in a BCS setting is to good to pass. I also asked my fellow BS contributors this question. Jason chooses the "Washington Redskins, because they were my first love and when you get down to it DC is a football city" He also added that winning the Super Bowl is " as big as it gets in this country". Brady (who we are still waiting to make his long awaited debut on BS)says Cincinnati Bengals for "obvious reason". He also added "describing what it would be like to see the whodey win a Super Bowl can not be put into words". The Ty King, who is are elusive 4th contributor was unable to be reach for comment due to his involvement in SE Asia right now. My guess for T.K. would be the Thailand Tigers. He loves those fuckers. and my Mom says "Go Cats" even though I didn't ask for her input....Anyway we all picked football teams. I do think the time of year I asked this question has an effect on who we picked. Also this shows this nations obsession with football. Thats my take, I would love to see others inputs and thoughts. So think of this as the first test on the Bottle Service nation. We want in put!

Go Upsets!

I dont know about you but Tuesday is when the calendar turns to February and that means my attention turns almost exclusivly to College Basketball. Kinda like when Tara Reid walks in to the party in "Van Wilder" with that white shirt on(this of coarse is pre botched boob job Tara Reid). I spent my saturday watching nothing but Colege Basketball. I sat there hour after hour in amazment as 11 of the top 25 lost. The shockers of the day included Uconn losing at home to Lville, as did Villanove to Georgetown, Florida to Miss St, Wisconsin to Penn St, Duke to StJohns and on and on and on. So after this madness, what are we left to believe about 2011? (and more importantly the up coming NCAA tournement) Well this tells me there is no great team this year. Now some of you are probably asking, What about Ohio St? Well they may not have lost but struggled to beat a John Shurna less Northwestern team. So even though they are #1 and undefeated, I have my doubts. But like the Chicago Bears after Jay Cutler was "injured" (cough, cough), Caleb Hanie is all we've got. Caleb Hanie being Ohio St. Stay with me people. Now Im not one to panic after one crazy saturday and start to say things like no 1 seeds will make the final 4 or a 16 seed will make a run or that there is a Butler or George Mason team out there that will be playing for the title. But I will give you this advise. IGNORE THE TOP 25 RANKINGS! They really mean nothing as far as seeding are conserned. These meaningless numbers beside every schools name only give fans bragging rights. College Basketball is just all about matchups. Example- Kentucky beat Louisvile but Lost to Uconn. Then Louisville beats Uconn. The Tranasitive property (a > b > c) does not hold. That's right people I just dropped a Transitive property on you, BOOM! I'm as unpredictable as this basketball season. So I have a few teams that you may not think to keep in mind for a deep tourney run, Texas, Purdue, Washington, Kentucky, BYU, Tennessee, Marquette. I may not be breaking much ground with this list but if 4 of these teams made up the Final 4 I think you all would be surprised. Good Day

Buckeye Blitz

The big game last night was #12Purdue at #1Ohio St. I personally was looking forward to watching two elite8 level team Battle it out. Before ESPN even switched there coverage over the Buckeyes were up 20. Jared Sullinger is a POY candidate averaging 17pt 10reb but it was the other players on the team that gives Ohio St a real shot to win the title.John Diebler is as good of an outside shooter as there is in the nation. David Lighty is the sneaky future pro and leader on this team. Don't forget William Buford who is the ideal college swing man.The pieces on this team just fit so well together. Much like Brooklyn Decker the Buckeyes pass the eye test. They are big enough, they can shoot, and they have plenty of future pros, but the most important thing they have in my opinion is there coach. Thad Mata has lead teams deep in the tournament several times at Ohio St and Xavier. It really is amazing how he is able to loose a player and leader like Even Turner and come back with a better team. The one weakness of this team is they only go seven deep. Now nobody knows what will happen come March (just ask Kansas about Northern Iowa)but this Buckeye team is easily a top four team in the nation and they proved it last night. Even with the display the Buckeyes put on the moment that stuck out more than me in my yoga class was Robbie Hummel sitting on the bench having to watch. Hummel torn his ACL for the second season in a row. He has been given next year to play but his running mates like JaJaun Johnson will be gone. Purdue is a top 12 team without him, and hes there best player. But Purdue has plenty of season left and still could make a Final Four run. There an early favorite for Americas team come March. The darling of the year has already been determined, its #9BYU and Jimmer Fredette, averaging 26.7 points per game. I haven't seen him play yet but will tonight when they play #4 SDSU. Now I have to go find the channel Jimmer will be on tonight.I suggest you do the same.

Trouble in the Jungle

So Chad Ochocino is entering the last year of his contract with the Cincinnati Bengals. The attention driven receiver tweeted about where he could end up next. He named Oakland and New England. Well first off the thought of Chad being a Raider makes my head explode like that guy in Scanners. Now Chad is interested in the Raiders because Hugh Jackson is there new head coach and was Chads "fav" when he was on the Bengals staff. But the real entertainment here is when Marvin Lewis responded to Chads thoughts on being a Pat in the future. "Belichick is smarter than that" said Lewis. Say what you will about the Bengals but they just let Chad talk and don't respond. Now Belihick has a history of rehabilitating trouble making players. Corey Dillon, Randy Moss come to mind. But if Wes Welker was benched for his foot-attack on the Jets, i don't think Chads dances, 14 TV shows, or constant tweeting about the organization would go over to well. Pats are the most secretive team out there. Could you image if Chad was a Pat during "Sypgate" he would of unintentionally broke the story way before the the law firm of Scheffler and Mortensen. After Chad says whatever he wants to say the Bengals do not negotiate with change or improvement.
